The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) is the largest national association exclusively dedicated to professionally operated assisted living communities for seniors. Assisted Living Federation of America's member-driven programs promote business and operational excellence through an annual conference, research, publications, and executive networks. The Assisted Living Federation of America works to influence public policy by advocating for informed choice, quality care, and accessibility for all Americans.
If you are a senior living professional, join our online social networking community, ALFA Exchange, which brings together great ideas, best practices and lessons learned from other professionals in the senior living industry.
The Assisted Living Federation of America defines assisted living as a senior living option that combines housing, support services and health care, as needed. Assisted living is designed for individuals who require assistance with everyday activities such as meals, medication management or assistance, bathing, dressing and transportation. Some residents may have memory disorders including Alzheimer's, or they may need help with mobility, incontinence or other challenges. Residents are assessed upon move in, or any time there is a change in condition. The assessment is used to develop an Individualized Service Plan.
ALFA has a great site for family, friends and prospective residents searching for assisted living information. At ALFA.org/Family you will find answers to questions like, Who is the typical assisted living resident? What is the cost of assisted living? How is assisted living regulated? What services are offered in assisted living? What are examples of assisted living activities? And most importantly, Is Assisted Living right for myself and/or my family!? You can also use the ALFA website to search for communities near you.

Haitian employees of U.S. senior living communities now have access to the ALFA Haiti Relief Fund. ALFA has organized this emergency fund to provide direct financial assistance to the many senior living employees—Haitians or those with family in Haiti—who have been directly affected by the recent earthquake and its aftermath.
ALFA has already given $10,000 in grant awards and would like to sincerely thank all senior living companies who have also made donations. Together, 31 senior living employees have each received $500 grants. ALFA will continue to give grant awards as senior living companies donate supplement funds.
