Richard P. (Rick) Grimes, President and CEO of the Assisted Living Federation of America, announced today that he is retiring and stepping down to make room for new executive leadership. Following ALFA’s most successful year in 2013 and the largest and most successful ALFA Conference and Expo last month in Phoenix, Grimes said he could think of no better time.
ALFA announced the winners of the ALFA 2014 Best of the Best Awards in the May/June issue of Senior Living Executive magazine. These annual awards honor new innovations that promote resident quality of life and business excellence in the field of senior living. ALFA recognized the winning best practices at the ALFA 2014 Conference & Expo, May 19-22 in Phoenix, AZ.
More than 2,000 senior living professionals gathered in Phoenix, Arizona for the first full day of the ALFA 2014 Conference & Expo. This annual conference helps raise the bar for excellence in senior living by providing a forum for education and networking for executives who work in companies offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care for seniors.

Seniors in assisted living overwhelmingly feel safe in, and satisfied with, the communities in which they live, according to a new poll. The nationwide survey of seniors currently living in assisted living communities found that fully 93% feel satisfied with their community, including 68% who say they are “very satisfied.” The survey also found residents almost unanimously feel safe in their communities, with 99% of respondents reporting they feel safe.
