Senior Living Art Showcase Background

The art showcase, open to all residents of senior living communities, celebrates seniors’ continued zeal for life and community. Through this year’s theme, carpe diem, residents were asked to answer the question: “What makes a pleasant day for you?” Finalists will be honored at COMMUNITY 2012, the annual ALFA conference and expo, and two grand prize winners will each receive painting parties for their whole community in honor of their talents and to encourage further community engagement.

More than 200 residents of assisted living, independent living, and memory care communities submitted artwork for inclusion in the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase. ALFA received submissions from residents from 23 companies across the country and around the world. View the full list of participating companies. 31 works of art were chosen as finalists and are currently visible on ALFA’s Facebook page.

As a senior living professional, you have seen the difference art can make in a resident’s quality of life. Art can be a therapeutic tool or a challenging and enjoyable hobby. Art can connect residents through discussion or facilitate introspection. Art serves many purposes, and is a critical part of many seniors’ lives. Through the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase, ALFA hopes to encourage residents to use art as one way to live life to the fullest.
