2014 ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase
Sponsored By Sargent Art
VOTING IS OPEN for the Senior Living Art Showcase. Please visit http://alfa.org/2014art to "Like" the resident artwork. The theme for this year's showcase was, "It's the little things that matter most". Hundreds of residents from 158 communities, representing 33 senior living companies participated.
ALFA and Sargent Art have launched the third annual ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase, a competition recognizing the talents of senior living residents and resident activity programs at communities across the country.
Resident activity directors and executive directors are encouraged to bring together residents in a creative group project to demonstrate the community environment at their senior living residences.
“Art is a powerful tool for residents to enjoy, experience and share,” says Program Manager Bhakti Oza with Sargent Art, a national art materials supplier. “It is vital that communities incorporate programs that encourage artistic exploration. As always, we are glad to bring our expertise of the medium to this competition.”
Each senior living community may submit one digital photograph of a piece of artwork created by the collaborative efforts of at least three residents (there will be no “single resident” art works accepted in this year’s competition). Artwork will be accepted through Friday, April 11. Images of entries best representing the 2014 theme will be uploaded onto ALFA’s Facebook page. The 2014 theme is "It's the little things that matter most". Artists, their families and friends, as well as the general public can “Like” their work April 15 – April 22. These “Likes” will count as votes, and the top three works of art will be selected as Fan Favorite winners. Three Grand Prize winners also will be chosen, based on adherence to theme.
“Through ALFA’s art showcase, we celebrate the many robust social activities and engagement programs that maintain and improve the mental and physical well-being of seniors,” says Rick Grimes, ALFA president and CEO. “Our members are dedicated to their residents, families and team members and work tirelessly every day to provide an active and engaging day in a safe, independent and life-enriching environment.”
Select community artworks will be honored at the ALFA 2014 Conference & Expo, May 19-22, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona.
