 The spirit of a volunteer is one of compassion and humility. Ricky Fox embodies that spirit and contributes to the positive environment at Morningside of Sumter, a Five Star Senior Living community. Ricky is a forty-two year old man with special needs, and a heart that cannot be measured. Ricky’s impact is felt throughout the community, whether in the kitchen where he enjoys rolling silverware or in the common area where he exercises his prowess at the Bingo tables. His nominator wrote, “I will never forget the look on Ricky’s face when I told him that I was ordering him a nametag and a Morningside shirt. He asked daily if they had arrived. When the uniform arrived his feet wouldn’t touch the ground.” He gives of his heart to the staff and residents without fanfare, expectations or rewards. He is not only an example of a great volunteer, he is a person we should all strive to be.
