Bringing Veterans' Families TogetherThe Assisted Living Federation of America and its members are proud to partner together with Luke's Wings to help veterans and their families in their time of need. This program is designed to connect veterans residing in senior living communities who are on hospice with family members experiencing financial hardship and living far from the community.About Luke's WingsLuke’s Wings was founded in January 2008, dedicated to the support of service members who have been wounded in battle. Recognizing the immediate need for families to be with their loved ones at such a difficult time, Luke’s Wings provides families with the means to visit during the service member’s hospitalization and rehabilitation. By purchasing travel agency services and travel tickets for loved ones, Luke’s Wings provides an immediate and invaluable service to the families of our men and women at arms while also helping to encourage and motivate the service member’s recovery. Today, the majority of requests are for World War II veterans, Korean War veterans, and Vietnam War veterans in senior living communities or nursing homes. Luke’s Wings regards the Veterans in Hospice Care Program as a “final salute” to the greatest generation that ever lived. Learn More About the Program & How to Apply for an Award

2013 Hero Awards
Heroes are found in senior living communities across the country. They are the executive directors, staff members, nurses, frontline caregivers, and volunteers who do more, give more, and personify the spirit of excellence in senior living care. Everyone knows at least one hero — someone in senior living who has shown extraordinary courage and leadership — someone who has risen above his or her daily duties to improve the quality of life for residents. Nominations for the ALFA 2013 Hero Awards, the organization’s annual recognition of the hundreds of thousands of dedicated professionals who compassionately serve seniors residing in senior living communities, is now open. Nominate a Hero. *Nominations for this competitions will close on January 11, 2013. ENERGY STAR
