Senior Living Community Leadership Award

The Executive Director is responsible for providing overall leadership in the day-to-day operation of a senior living community. This person is charged with maintaining staff, resident and family engagement in addition to budget adherence and regulatory compliance. During the ALFA Conference and Expo an Executive Director will be honored for exemplary leadership in senior living community management. 2012 marks the first year ALFA has presented this award and is eager to recognize the role and service of this selected Executive Director. Communities Acting to Reduce Energy (CARE)

Voluntarily reducing greenhouse gas emissions through strategic energy management practices is ethically sound and gives your community/company the opportunity to promote your efforts and the positive impact they have on the environment. Communities Acting to Reduce Energy (C.A.R.E) program will honor assisted living member communities that have shown 5 percent, 10 percent and 15 percent energy savings over the past 3 years. General Public Awards

Film Competition

ALFA, representing senior living providers and the seniors and families they serve, is a leading voice in the fight against ageism in America. ALFA is again sponsoring a film competition featuring short films (under 8 minutes) about ageism that illuminated specific discriminatory practices against seniors, prejudicial attitudes toward the aging process, and institutional practices that perpetuate stereotypes about seniors. The winning films will be screened during the ALFA Annual Conference & Expo. Learn more.

Public Policy Awards

Horace D’Angelo Award

Horace D’ Angelo was a founder of ALFA, a long standing board member and a board member of the Michigan Assisted Living Association. His vision was to support resident centered regulatory oversight through grassroots advocacy that included a strong national organization – ALFA – working jointly with ALFA state affiliates and chapters across the country. The ALFA Board of Directors established the Horace D’ Angelo Junior Memorial Award in 2010 to honor the important contributions Horace made to the senior living industry. The award is presented each year at the ALFA annual conference to one or more ALFA state affiliates or chapters for their achievement, success and effort to align state regulations with ALFA’s public policy positions. Statesman Award

Grassroots advocacy at the state level is a priority of ALFA and the state affiliates and chapters. The goal to ensure resident centered laws and regulations, with oversight maintained at the state level, is a large part of what the ALFA state affiliates and chapters do on a daily basis. To be successful, it is critical to have senior living champions in state governments across the country. The 2011 ALFA Statesman Award will be presented to a state elected official who has demonstrated outstanding efforts on behalf of senior living residents. Learn more.
