Earlier this year, CMS approved over 100 Accountable Care Organizations throughout the country to take part in the Affordable Care Act’s Shared Savings Program. CMS has offered contact information for each ACO on the agency’s website.
The Medicare Shared Savings Program provides incentives for health care providers who agree to work together to achieve cost savings and better patient outcomes. This past April, CMS announced the first 27 Accountable Care Organizations that were approved for the new program. In July, CMS announced the approval of an additional 88 organizations. A list of the initial 27 ACOs and the 88 recently approved ACOs are both available on CMS’ website.
Last year, CMS also approved 32 organizations to participate in the Pioneer ACO Model, which incorporates higher levels of risk and savings than the Medicare Shared Savings Program. A list of these 32 organizations is also available.
Senior living providers cannot join Accountable Care Organizations, but the new incentives may offer opportunities for senior living providers to establish meaningful partnerships with these existing ACOs.
