ALEXANDRIA, Va. – February 21, 2012 -- The Assisted Living Federation of America
(ALFA) is inviting the public to vote for their favorite artwork as a
part of the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase, a premier art competition
for senior living residents. Senior living residents, their families,
employees of senior living communities, and members of the general
public will help choose a winner by voting on ALFA’s Facebook page, now through February 29, 2012.
More than 200 residents of assisted living, independent living, and memory care communities
submitted artwork for inclusion in the showcase. Over 100 works of art
were chosen as semifinalists and are currently visible on ALFA’s Facebook page.
Residents were asked to paint around the theme carpe diem, meaning
seize the day, in order to demonstrate how senior living residents live
life to the fullest. ALFA received submissions from residents from 23
companies across the country and around the world. The companies are:

“We
were delighted by the high response to our request and overwhelmed by
the stunningly creative and beautiful works of art we received for the
ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase,” said Richard P. Grimes, ALFA president
and CEO. “One of the many manifestations of the good life in our
communities is the encouragement of artistic achievement by professional
artists, amateur artists, and those who wish to take up art for the
first time—but we didn’t expect to get almost museum-quality works.”
To vote, “like” your favorite pieces of art on ALFA’s Facebook page.
After the voting deadline, two winners will be chosen. One will be
solely based on popular vote and the other will be chosen by ALFA’s
elite panel of national art experts. Both winning artists will receive a
painting party for their respective communities, and a number of other
finalists will be chosen to be displayed at COMMUNITY 2012, the ALFA conference and expo.
