Last week, we asked for your perspective on senior living, and we received insightful responses from senior living company and community executives, who voiced the most challenging and rewarding aspects of their career. Senior living professionals were widely concerned about quality staffing. Executives emphasized the importance of finding caregivers who are well trained and compassionate towards residents. Employee retention of quality caregivers and staff was a priority in the workplace. Keeping up with increasing assisted living regulations was another key concern. Understanding new regulations can take substantial time that could otherwise be devoted to resident care, and some regulations can go too far by restricting residents’ right to freedom and choice. Despite all the challenges, respondents were still motivated to continue working in senior living because of the residents. Many saw their career path as a calling. They wanted to make a difference in their community and improve quality of life for seniors. The interactions with the residents were cherished and learning from the residents made their positions enjoyable and rewarding on a daily basis. Thank you to everyone who shared their perspective in last week’s survey. Understanding your opinion will help ALFA generate content relevant to you throughout the coming months. If you did not get to participate in the Reader Input Survey, but would like to share your feedback, please do so now. You may also share your feedback via Twitter, @alfa_online .
